“I think we ought to have a draft. I think if a nation goes to war, it shouldn’t be solely be represented by a professional force, because it gets to be unrepresentative of the population,” [General Stanley A] McChrystal said at a late-night event June 29 at the 2012 Aspen Ideas Festival. “I think if a nation goes to war, every town, every city needs to be at risk. You make that decision and everybody has skin in the game.”
If you recall, two years ago McChrystal
was sacked by President Obama as the top commander in Afghanistan for suggesting to Rolling Stone magazine that the real enemy were ”the wimps in the White House.”
That's just to let you know who the guy is. Not exactly a lightweight nor a political lackey.
A draft Amy would save the government millions--we wouldn't have to hire contractors to be cooks or drive trucks. Also, it would be a democratic army from the people and what wars we fought would be answerable to the people.
